Alonzo Mourning, Dikembe Mutombo along with Patrick Ewing are three of the biggest names to come out of Georgetown University. The three are also well known NBA Legends. The three former Hoyas led a convoy of other NBA personnel on a trip to Africa as part of the NBA’s Basketball Without Borders program.
Mutombo, a native of the Democratic Republic of The Congo, Africa, is no stranger to humanitarian missions in Africa. Back in 1997 Mutombo started the Dikembe Mutombo Foundation. The main focus of his foundation “centered” around improve the living conditions of his native country. Mutombo donated an estimated $17 million to the construction of $29 million, 300 bed hospital located just outside his hometown of Kinshasha.
Mourning, is also no stranger to humanitarian work. His foundation, Alonzo Mourning Charities, just celebrated its 15 year anniversary. Mourning’s passion is “centered” around the educational development of children. Mourning believes that all children deserve to have the tools to achieve their goals, thus allowing them to become productive citizens.
Patrick Ewing completes the Georgetown trio Hoya legends on this mission to Africa.
