Willis McGahee kept himself busy during the NFL lockout, and what better way to do it then to give back. Back on June 27th, the “Willis McGahee Charity Golf Classic” was held at the TPC Blue Monster at Doral in Miami, FL. This was the first time McGahee held this event in Miami. McGahee hosts this event annually back in Baltimore, MD to benefit his foundation, “The Willis McGahee Foundation.”
Willis has been giving back to the community with various charitable events for over a decade now. Through his foundation Willis continues to provide help and assistance to kids in the community providing them with the tools they need to continue to be productive citizens in life and the community.
It was definitely a joy and a privelege to be around him for one whole day on the golf course watching him “unwind.”Giving back to the community is something that is near and dear to his heart and just as most individuals (and other athletes) he has a “soft spot” for kids. Here are a few pictures from the event. If you want more information about McGahee and his charities you can check out his website http://www.willismcgahee.com/
There were several different sponsors for Willis’s event, among them, Tropical Smoothies were in attendance (http://tropicalsmoothie.com/). We had an opportunity to speak with one of the franchisees (Brad Shellen) of a Tropical Smoothie located in Miami. Shellen mentioned that when approached with the idea by McGahee’s representatives to assist in sponsorship they did not hesitate, knowing the type of individual McGahee is “off the field” there was no question that they were more than happy to sponsor this event.
Also a special thanks to Jane Yin for allowing me to profile Willis. http://www.jsypr.com/
